Data Interface Standards for Utilities Market

We are starting investigation for interfacing our data system with the utility market passing non-PI (personally identifiable) information related to sales of our product. Can anyone tell me about typical data communication standards and preferences? Is there a well formed XML/SOAP structure standard? Or do they prefer UDDI/WSDL? Something else?
